Week 9 - Jayden Perry
Week 9 - Space & Art
The concept of space and our universe is very fascinating for scientists and the rest of society. The Power of Ten video really put into perspective how small our world is compared to the rest of our universe. We have made advancements and accomplishments in figuring out our universe, however, there is so much more that we have to discover. This exploration into space involves the advancements that have been made in nanotechnology, biotechnology, mathematics, and robots (Vesna).
From the first interest in space, Copernicus used mathematics to determine that everything orbits around the sun in rings (Vesna). This finding how our planet orbits around the sun allowed us to create a calendar, seasons, birthdays, etc. In addition, we became more interested in stars and the meaning of their placement. The significance of astrology signs is very closely linked to the fascination of space. We are able to get an understanding of astrology signs through nanotechnology and mathematics used to figure out our orbiting systems. We designated 12 signs to represent different moments of the Earth’s orbit around the sun.

When we look into space exploration today, we can think about Elon Musk and his plans for the colonization of Mars with his SpaceX plan. With space travel moving into the private domain with the signing of the NASA Authorization Act of 2010 by President Obama, a whole new era in space, exploration, research, and development has been created which is extremely exciting (Vesna).

Hi Jaden,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more that the Power of Ten video is a powerful reminder of just how small and insignificant our world is in the grand scheme of things. I find it fascinating how mathematics, in particular, has played a crucial role in unraveling the mysteries of space, from Copernicus' mathematical calculations to determine the orbits of celestial bodies to the correlation between astrology signs and our orbiting systems. The historical context you provided, such as the Space Race and the significance of failures, adds depth and showcases the resilience of human endeavor. And of course, the mention of Elon Musk and his SpaceX plan for Mars colonization opens up a whole new realm of possibilities and excitement for the future of space exploration.
Thank you for sharing!

Jaden, you did a great job demonstrating the arc of history when it comes to space and art. The pursuit of space has often sparked great art as a result—one of my favorite movies is 2001: A Space Oddysey which was released shortly after human beings first walked on the moon. Undoubtedly, our modern era of space travel and invention will bring on a new wave of artistic impressions and representations.
